I guess you get what you pay for
Before ordering this thing I thought I would just need to sharpen the blade, flatten the base, and i'd end up with a reasonable quality tool. Sadly that's not the case. On my unit the hole for the cap screw was drilled way off center. The cap barely fits in the body, and you have to fiddle around with it to make it fit. The "threaded rods" that the thumb screws use fit very loose in the body. The thumb screws themselves fit super loose on these rods too, and they're also so small in diameter that they barely reach the blade. All of this combined means that the blade adjustment "system" barely works, if it works at all. The thumbscrews also rattle when you use the tool.
I gave it two stars because after sanding the base, and sharpening the blade, the tool works.
However, if I was to buy again, I wouldn't waste my time and money on this thing. Just spend the bit of extra money and go with a good quality vintage spokeshave.
