Took a bit of time reading the reviews the main other competitor was the Bissell big green however most review still rated the rug doctor pro x as being good value for money and reliable. I used it on the carpets at our new house as they were very old and had not seen the light of day for about 20 years as my mother in law had stuff piled up in some rooms (the dirt still gets ingrained) The rug doctor worked hard and although I cold have gone over a few times as the water was still a bit dirty the result was as fresh and clean as they could be after the grime of 20 years had been pushed down into the pile. I also cleaned the mattress with the hand held (which is also good for getting into difficult to reach places) - it was powerful and made a good job of th mattress which was dry in about 4 hours you have to be careful not to over wet. I found the machine easy to use there was no complicated bits or bits that were not necessary- quite a stripped down machine that does a good job and I would recommend it for home use Read full review

Bought this new a few weeks ago over all a good hard working machine .I hired one a few years ago and just get the feeling this purchased one is not the same . In hard to get places the attachment is hard work take it of put it on (the attachment is for upholstery and has to be put on and taken of to use the floor machine a pain in the rectum ) would prefer a stand up one with a large wond there out there for purchased so in retrospect would buy one of those but don’t be put of it a good machine and no doubt for the manufacture and retailer a money machine

Works just as well as the version you hire. Did a great job cleaning a neglected carpet, bringing it up as good as new. The handle seems a bit flimsy but, although it flexes, I don't think it will give way. Very straightforward to operate. Good suction, leaves the carpet almost dry.
