A genuine surprise!
I've thought about a diesel heater for a long time now and I've watched all the You Tube vids on the various types. I have a Minibus conversion to camper van and was concerned about space, drilling holes through floors, connections and heat output etc etc, all a bit of a minefield if your not very tec savvy or even competent in fitting stuff like this. Let me assure you that If I can do it then anyone can.
I have mine fitted behind the drivers seat, next to the leisure battery and off the sidewall slightly to allow for the intake fan at the rear of the unit.
Its easy peasy fitting. I don't have the air intake pipe going through the floor. Doesn't seem much point drilling two holes in the floor when that pipe can trail into the drivers side footwell along the floor. Its one of the coldest parts of my van, probably even colder than outside! So, just the one hole through the floor for the exhaust and vented out the side of the van bolted to the sill.
Make sure your batteries(s) are well charged before you fire it up .....it doesn't like low batteries and shows up error 1 - just so as you know!
There is talk on You Tube about the fuel pump noise and there are several hacks as to how to fix it. I'm not bothered. On first firing it up the thing unit it sounds like its about to take off and the pump is working away at high speed to get the unit up to the temp you have set it at. I like 15 - 17 degrees in the van. Believe me, any higher than that and you will cook yourself. Once it reaches the desired temp everything calms down, the fans slow and the pump slows to a rhythmic tick. Its very noticeable and it could be difficult to sleep with if your a light sleeper. I personally don't leave it on when sleeping preferring to stay warm and not stuffy under blankets and quilts which brings me to a really good point. The remote ..... ah, what a blessing. You don't even need to put your heard out in the morning just click on and off it goes - brilliant.
All in all its a cracking piece of kit for the price and does a very good job. The instruction book needs some work but you'll get the hang of it. Its very economical too.
I still have a slight plastic wiff when fired up as the two hoses that fit to the output side get hot and have yet to bed in I suppose.
Would I recommend this? Yes, most definitely. Good price. Works well. Easy to fit. Bit noisy but that ain't the end of the world? Read full review
had an issue with the vent rubber in the fuel tank cap , diesel melted the rubber it fell into the tank, fuel leaked out into vehicle which must not happen cannot get rid of diesel smell changed fuel cap for better quality one sorted the leak, bulky item not very practical in smaller vehicles you will have to cut hole for the exhaust pipe
I was pleasantly surprised at just how good the first diesel heater that I bought for use on my boat was and so I bought a second one to use in my workshop. My advice for anyone considering one of these is to do what I did first and that is to scour the internet for information and YouTube for videos on how to install. Dispose of the low cost fuel pipe and clips , exhaust pipe and clips and the other low cost parts and use better quality parts so that you can use the heater and have piece of mind!
Great price and good bit of kit which works well !
Bought this for my workshop , worked well out of the box , put some diesel in , connect a 12v supply ( car battery) and made a hole for the exhaust in my workshop wall and fired it up. Is quite noisy when running , but blows out nice hot air and can heat my workshop up in no time. Great price for the kit , everything you need comes with it and it looks good and works well does not take up too much space
I bought this as a temporary replacement for am Eberspacher D4 while it was being repaired. I work out of my van and couldn't be without a heater at the minute.
Pros:
This was very simple to install. Drill 2 holes in the floor, connect it to 12v, add fuel and away it goes. Provides a good amount of heat and seems to be efficient. A full tank of fuel is lasting me approximately 20 hours.
Cons:
The fuel pump is quite noisy on tick over but as it's an all in one unit this is to be expected. Uses a lot of amps on start up so running your vehicle until its up to operating temperature is recommended.
