GOOD SHREDDER BUT BIT HEAVY - VERY GOOD VALUE
I bought this shredder as it was one of the machines recommended by Which. It is very easy to use and set up, and has a large bin for the shredded pieces. It is a cross cutter but the shreds are perhaps larger than you would have expected: it would however take a dedicated thief who wanted to put your documents back together again! The waste box has a window in it, so you can see how full it is getting. The shredder eats paper, credit cards etc without any difficulty. One negative though and that is the shredder head is very heavy, so not the easiest to move when emptying. That said, it has a number of safety devices to keep small fingers out, in that there is a locking switch, the cutting can be turned off by a rocker switch on the top and can even be switched off completely at the back.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Almost useless.

Good -- but DO read the care instructions
I studied reviews and chose this, although had my doubts because previous Fellowes had gone wrong. This model is basically the same but with more safety features. The instructions are very detailed. I am glad I read them carefully though -- VERY IMPORTANT: Do not run it beyond 5 minutes at a time and oil the cutters -- with vegetable oil! -- each time the bin gets full. It would help if a refillable oiling bottle with fine nozzle could be supplied for this - have nothing suitable. Very poor quality item
The fellowes shredder lasted to shredder about 40 sheets of A4 paper then it stopped working on investigation the internal plastic cutter holder broke this making the machine un unusable and un economical to repair. Not even close to advertised spec.
Seeking an upgrade I bought this shredder attracted by it's 8 sheet capacity, US brand and non-jamming mechanism. How disappointing in reality: it struggles with four sheets of 80gsm, it is made in China and it jams like crazy. The cutters are housed in a plastic cassette with serious potential for jamming, necessitating a mix of tools, running in reverse and hope to clear it. It has improved slightly with use and lubrication which suggests the cutters may self-sharpen but arrive blunt. The container has a useless window which serves to weaken it. It hasn't broken yet; I use it with a maximum of 3 sheets, briefly reverse every ten passes or so to clear the cassette, and lubricate with veg oil more than seems reasonable.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great shredder
I have had several shredders before. This is the best one I have had to date. Will take 8 sheets at once and also credit cards. It does shut itself off after 5 mins or so of continuous shredding to prevent overheating. This is as stated in the product info, and common to all shredders at this price point. Not a problem on normal use, but needs to be allowed for if you have a large stack of papers to shred. Seems fairly powerful and not too noisy. Bin size is about right.
