The ProTemp In-Line Heaters are very easy to install; simply cut through the hose from the external filter that feeds the water back into the aquarium, fit the external heater in between, insert the plug and set the water temperature you require.

JBL E300 in line heater
Great value product. I used an adhesive hook to secure the heater in an upright position under the tank, even though the pipework holds it vertical, seems the only way to break it is to let air in so keeping it vertical is the main thing to remember. Heated the tank up quickly and has been holding the temperature very well. It's on a 240L tank at 25.5°C. They are more expensive than traditional heaters but it gives a cleaner finish inside the tank and a more even temperature, no cold spots I can find with a temp gauge.
