"Travels With My Aunt" is mostly for fans of Maggie Smith Her eccentric Aunt Augusta is portrayed at various stages of her life (Smith was 38 when she made the film), and it is in her portrayal of the older Aunt Augusta that we can see some of the foundations of Smith's beloved dowager in "Downton Abbey." All the tics and mannerisms that are present in some of Smith's latter day performances are on full display here. "Travels" was one of legendary director George Cukor's final film, and it's not his best work.
