About this product

Product Information

Written by the leading researchers in the field, this information-rich guide to improving your mood explains how gut health drives psychological well-being, and how depression and anxiety can be relieved by adjusting your intestinal bacteria. This groundbreaking book explains the revolutionary new science of psychobiotics and the discovery that your brain health and state of mind are intimately connected to your microbiome, that four-pound population of microbes living inside your intestines. Leading medical researchers John F. Cryan and Ted Dinan, working with veteran journalist Scott C. Anderson, explain how common mental health problems, particularly depression and anxiety, can be improved by caring for the intestinal microbiome. Science is proving that a healthy gut means a healthy mind and this book details the steps you can take to change your mood and improve your life by nurturing your microbiome.

  • Interesting, readable and useful

This is an accessible description of the microbiome and some ideas about how you might improve your diet to feel better and be healthier. Whilst the dietary advice is, I'm sure, equally applicable to people on the autistic spectrum, I'd be surprised if the suggested changes will address the condition itself, a point that isn't made clear and if the author really intends to suggest that ASD is actually a condition caused by a defective microbiome then he hasn't presented enough evidence to support that. But, still, its a useful book.

  • Fascinating

Fascinating. I will read and reread this book as there is so much interesting and astonishing information on how but health can impact on every aspect of your physical and mental health. Not too difficult to read or too technical to absorb and it makes you think about how you fuel your body and how difficult it is to maintain a healthy diet and protect your biome in this day and age of ultra processed ‘food’.

  • Great read on how to stay healthy

Really easy read. Amazing information on how to stay as healthy as you can- you are what you eat- if you keep your good bacterial flora happy. All explained so very well. Really recommend as a good read.
