  • Most critical review

Not as good as the book or documentary!

This film was ok - Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman were great as always. Having read the book, felt that this film does not come close to representing either the horrors that PoWs experienced or the touching and inspiring reconciliation of Lomax and Nagase. Sadly, I think this is a missed opportunity by the screenwriters and director to make something really powerful.

  • A difficult watch.

Very thought provoking film. Scenes of torture to the prisoners were very disturbing. Saying this film is not entertaining is no reflection on the film as such but the word doesn't fit for the theme of the film. My father in law was a prisoner of war in Japan and this brought to life the horror of his experience.

  • A deep and engaging movie

The railway man simply needs to be seen, despite any review you read. Its a very touching true story and I won't reveal much except to say that it is about, wounding and for forgiveness. Colin firth is excellent as are his Co-stars, including Nicole kidman. It is a movie which touches the heart and expresses a wonderful message of wisdom. A must watch!
