Golden Indulgence!
This is a thoroughly enjoyable series written and produced by the illustrious Julian Fellowes who brings to the table all his knowledge of life, customs and habits of the late 19th century as seen previously in The Duchess of Duke Street. In this wonderful creation we experience not the noble family of Downton Abbey but rather the 'aristocracy' of New York City presented with the very ambitious Bertha Russell who, with her husband, epitomises the rise of the Middle Class. Christine Baranski is superb as is Cynthia Nixon, both seen in such unfamiliar roles after their roles in very 21st century series. The production is fantastic, the costumes glorious and the storylines very enjoyable. My words for 'The Gilded Age' are WONDERFULLY INDULGENT. I watched the whoile of the 1st series in the course of 3 days because I LOVED it!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

I watched this series and was so pleased to see it available on DVD. The characters are fantastic and I must say that Christine Baranski takes snobbery to a whole new level - makes Maggie Smith look like a street urchin!!!
