  • No need to leave a meeting wondering "what the heck was all that about" again.

To be fair the book goes a lot deeper than I need right now but it is far better to have more and allow the readers to take out what they need than to not go far enough and leave gaps. The problem is, most groups, whatever they were formed to do, if they lack this information, achieve the task with unnecessary anguish and there can even be casualties. I bought the book more as a refresher having used some of the knowledge years ago in the business arena and more recently when setting up small groups in church. If people understand the theory from the start they need not be surprised or even shocked as the Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing phases come and go. Hence the group will achieve its goals and the people will come through even the toughest times undamaged.
