January 23, 1942, New Britain. Lark Force, comprising 1,500 soldiers and six nurses, faced a vastly superior Japanese amphibious unit poised to overrun Rabaul, capital of Australia's mandated territories.
Extremely well researched. A great documentation of Australia's military ineptitude and shame. Also a justification of Douglas Macarthur's strategy to defeat Japan in Pacific. From reading this book it is no wonder we applaud the efforts of the heroic retreat along the Kokoda trail in PNG
While comveniently forgetting the mishandling of the defence of Rabaul in the prelude to WW2. Cannot wait to read the two following volumes.
