Product Information

The authors offer unique insights into the factors that make us susceptible to dietary and lifestyle excesses, and present ways to restore the biological processes designed by nature to keep us running at maximum efficiency and vitality. A wake-up call to even the most health conscious people, The Pleasure Trap boldly challenges conventional wisdom about sickness and unhappiness in today's contemporary culture, offers groundbreaking solutions for achieving change, and provides a fascinating new perspective on how modern life can turn so many smart, savvy people into the unwitting saboteurs of their own well-being. Inspired by stunning original research, comprehensive clinical studies, and their successes with thousands of patients, the authors construct a new paradigm for the psychology of health, offering fresh hope for anyone stuck in a self-destructive rut.

  • Most important book you will read on Health

Obesity, cancer, heart disease, disease in general... How is it this has become such an epidemic despite the amount of money spent on health? The fact is, our instincts are being fooled by a society that doesn't understand our relationship to food and pleasure. Goldhamer and lisle explore this beautifully, with amazing depth, description and perspectives that are as sound as they are illuminating. As a personal victim of the pleasure trap, this has, no exaggeration, changed my life for the better. If you're chronically unwell or want to understand why so many people are, I'd consider this the first book to get hold of. As Black Books' Bernard says, 'You'll laugh, you'll cry, it'll change your life'. Not that he was sincere about the book he was referencing, but with this one he would be. Buy it. Every moment not reading it is another moment away from understanding our health.

  • Alternate therapy.

Quite happy with this easy read and it gives you a choice of doing things differently to the accepted conventional method of looking after your health and well being. Definitely worth a look and the choice entirely yours should you decide to take the whole lot of new thinking on board. Would certainly recommend it.

  • Very informative as to why we do what we do when we do

Very eye opening to the fact that we live in a time of unnatural abundance and the consequences of that abundance. The book demonstrates are need to correct are beliefs about food and other destructive activities that fool are survival instincts into bringing about our ruin.
