Tricks to Tunes: Violin: Violin Book 1: a Method for Group Tuition of Mixed Stringed Instruments: M720023229: Book 1 by Audrey Akerman (Spiral bound, 1999)
The use of the fourth finger for violin is introduced later in the book. One divergence from the usual approach is that the note G is taught after E but before F#.
My daughter has just taken up the violin in High School. Her teacher recommended this book to her and it is an excellent book. Very easy to read and to follow. My daughter enjoys working through this book and I can honestly say I have never seen her so enthusiastic about practicing the instrument at home. I would definitely recommend it for all beginners.
