SynopsisStarfleet's most sacred commandment has been violated. Its most honored captain is in disgrace, its most celebrated starship in pieces, and the crew of that ship scattered among the thousand worlds of the Federation...
In my high school library, there were two Star Trek novels: this, and a TNG novel. This one was the first Trek novel that I've read, and I knew little to nothing about the franchise. This is a compelling novel that goes into detail about a mystery surrounding the Enterprise crew during the waning years of their first 5-year mission and the accidental destruction of a civilization, which is the reason why it is titled "Prime Directive". Written by hardcore Trekkies themselves, the authors have penned over twenty Trek novels, as well as co-written ten novels with William Shatner himself, a novel on the cancelled "Star Trek: Phase II" series, and many other sci-fi novels, all of which have gotten mostly positive reviews, and for good reason. Pick this one up.
