Interesting....
I have caught one chipmunk with the trap. Not aggressively trying though. This morning I was sitting on my patio drinking coffee. The trap was set but not baited. I saw a chipmunk run across the patio, run into the trap, run across THE TRIGGER/BAIT STATION, then run back out without triggering the trap! I was not happy with it.
I gave this trap a 4 because there was not a 3 1/2 to click on. I have a much better one that I have been using for the past few years. I bought this one because it was cheaper and I never caught anything with it. It is made good but it has the handle for setting it on the side and it is easy for animals to set it off when walking around the trap trying to find out how to get in. TOO SMALL FOR TREE SQUIRRELS!
I bought this because it said good for catching Squirrels. Maybe a baby one. I had 4 squirrels in my yard and this set with peanuts as bait. I returned to find the trap tripped and peanuts eaten 4 times in a row! The squirel's tail keeps it from latching and the the unlatched spring latch 9n the door allows enough space for the Squirrel to escape. works great but . . .
I have owned a couple of these for several years. They are very durable and easy to use. However, the galvanized steel will scare away about 60% of the critters. I baited this trap with peanut butter to get rid of the chipmunk that was climbing up the wall and getting into the feeder. The peanut butter didn't work. However.... I took away the bird feeder and put some seed in the back of the trap and bingo! One caged chipmunk. Chippy now lives up the road a few miles in the wood in back of the Goodwill!
