They have a unique formulation and are firmer than conventional gel plates, having a stronger surface tack. These design variances are purposeful so that artists can get remarkable detail in their printed image with less squish and slip of colour when using printmaking inks. Acrylic paints and encaustics do not work well on these plates and may dry on the plate, making removal difficult.
