Refreshing, like a cool swim on a hot summer day.
I've always enjoyed the authors stories on the last page of Southern Living every month, I never knew he had a whole book of his articles, I'm so glad I found this book! It's really enjoyable, he has a wonderful way of telling you about something and making you feel as if you're a part of the story. Great stories with many of them from The Southern Living Magazine essays that are always there at the back. Love his writing. The author is a wonderful story teller and his writings will warm your heart and help you understand Southern people, especially those from prior generations and how difficult they had it. Bragg became famous, but it didn't change his ways
I picked up this book, used and then fell in love! After that, I purchased ALL of Rick Bragg's books for myself and for my sister who lives in Maine. Rick talks about about a kind of poor I had not heard of, and how it affected his life. This book should be read first, and then the others. He saviors life and would drive hours to get the best fish sandwich ever made. His father was in and out of their lives, just long enough to get his mama pregnant once again. Best funniest book in a decade. I absolutely love it and so does my daughter. I laughed until I had tears in my eyes.
