The 1st one in the series I read was about a new vicar and not the begining of the series. Now I'm catching up with all the others because I enjoyed that. However, all too soon I realised that the author writes in too much graphic detail about the frequency of intense violence, which suddenly rears up between residents; quite unrealistic behaviour for such a gentle community. The vicar and his GP wife are too lovey-dovey to be professional people. Storylines are compelling, like those of a TV serial but it's not gentle like the Miss Read books, so I could only recommend the series with reservations.

I now have all the Rebecca Shaw books, both used and new. They are about all the ups and downs of life in a village. Easy reading and even gives the names of people in the village at the beginning of each book. I have made my way through half of my collection and look forward to reading the rest of them.
