  • A personal subject thoroughly covered.

This book is compelling reading for those interested in the evolution of adoption and its procedures covering a whole century. Easy reading, it covers the subject in detail. My reasons to buy it are that I am trying to trace my personal adoption files, having been born and adopted in 1950, in a period when adoption was considered secretive and final. The laws covering adoption have changed dramatically, no longer is adoption considered a stigma in the life of the adopted person. The computerised age gives those seeking details of their birth parents a much greater chance of success and making it easier to understand and overcome the hurdles on the way. The beauty of this book is that before embarking on the journey to seek answers, the reader has a clear understanding of the background to adoption in the time frame. It then gives a lot of contacts, websites and pointers to enable the reader to slowly take each step at a time in this very personal and emotional subject. Well written in clear English, I found this book extremely helpful in my research to date.
