VP15 Programmer This is the Real Deal!
This programmer Works!! I was sceptical at first but took a chance because I read good reviews and to my surprise it lived up to the reviews The unit is well built and easy to program to your car with adaptations for installed mods, fuel octane & load. I purchased two of them, one for my modified Summer driver 2000 NB Miata 1.8 and one for my daily unmodified Fiesta. The testing on the Miata will have to wait but for now the 2012 Ford Fiesta 4 door Hatch 1.6 vvt running regular 87 is the focus of this review. I first tried the power setting and immediately noticed better throttle response, the engine felt stronger and pulling harder, this on regular 87 pump gas. I also noticed my fuel consumption had increased with my Litres per 100 kilometers used. At that point I was convinced this thing actually worked to increase power and with an understandable increase in fuel. Then I wanted to try the Mixed Setting. Wow. I did not notice any less power increase but I did see a noticeable decrease in fuel consumption. I have had this car since new and as I recall when ever I filled the tank my trip computer would register 514 kilometers ( 308 miles) to empty. After the first full tank of gas with the programmer I filled the tank and to my surprise based on fuel consumption from the previous tank my trip computer now registered 599 kilometers ( 359 miles ) to empty. WOW that's an extra 85 kilometers ( over 50 miles ) to a full tank or about
16 % better fuel economy.
The gas tank is 45 litres or about 10 imp gallons. My pre programmer average mileage was 52 kilometers or ( about 31 miles per imp gallon) With the VP15 connected my average has increased to 60 kilometers or
( about 36 miles per imp gallon ) this test was done in the first week of February in South Western Ontario on my not really fuel efficient winter tires. Average Temp -6 Celcius. Looking forward to the warmer weather for even better fuel savings. This is not just about saving fuel, I did not change my driving style and had my wife drive the car for half of the tank to be more objective. The car does have more power when you want it. I am not a programmer but I am a certified Mechanic so I understand the concept of these devices (also known as piggyback programmers) And can assure you the vast majority of them are just light blinkers.
It is my educated guess the VP15 communicates with the ECM and presumably pushes the envelope on the factory MAP Files.
I could be wrong but I think it learns and can possibly make long term fuel trim and timing adjustments on the fly depending on engine load and other variables. However it is designed to operate I am convinced it works.
Some Sceptics may call this a made up review or Placebo Effect but feeling that extra push you feel in the back of your seat or the fuel consumption numbers cant be denied. I Cant wait to get my Miata back on the road this spring. Based on the results I realized with my Fiesta I have high expectations the VP15 will make a very noticeable difference to the Miata because I plan on running 93 along with the installed Header, Cold Air Cowl Induction, full Exhaust & 15 degree timing to allow the VP15 to do its thing.
