I've been on the fence about the Audioquest Nighthawk Carbon for sometime. I have read mixed reviews about them; some of them glowing, others less enthusiastic. Given that they were $700 new, and recently heavily discounted, I decided to give them a try. And, I'm glad that I did. First off, I must say that these are the most comfortable headphones that I've ever owned. They are self adjusting and allow one to listen to music for hours in comfort, without having to adjust the headband. The Nighthawk Carbon's ear pads are also supple and coddle your head. What I also really like about these headphones is that they are super efficient at 25 ohms impedance. So I can drive them to very comfortable listening levels and well beyond without distorting my computer's headphone jack. They also scale well with a good quality headphone amplifier. As for quality, the Nighthawk Carbons are also very well constructed and aesthetically unlike any other headphone I have ever used. They look high-tech because they are high-tech. The bass is well produced, while the midrange and treble are just slightly recessed. This makes the Nighthawk sound somewhat veiled in the midrange and treble, however, only mildly so. Some listeners enjoy this more relaxed sound, however, if you prefer a brighter sounding headphone, the midrange and treble can be boosted using equalization. The Nighthawk sounds great with all types of music, and allows one to listen for hours on end without fatigue. Highly recommended!

  • Amazing out of the box!

If these Nighthawks sound this good out of the box then I can't wait to hear them after the 100-200 hour break-in period! I consider myself an audiophile in need of the "perfect" mix of lows mids and highs and so far these have out-done my other headphones and by far equal to, if not better than any set of $1,000 plus headphones I have ever owned. I would have paid the full $700 original price back when...and just purchased these Nighthawks for less than $300... If you get the chance to purchase these amazing headphones for this price, even more, then do it!! Also the most comfortable set of cans EVER, they feel like they are floating on my head! Complaints? Maybe a longer cord if you sit more than 4' from your source.

  • Innovative,unique design . Huge markdown. At this price a no-brainer.

NighHawks/ NightOwls have an unconventional design unlike any other manufacturer's. At one time the Nighthawks cost $600. On this clearance sale they sell for $220. In that price range they a great bargain and are every bit as good as the best audiophile models from competitors. I use them for Internet You Tube sources--not a very good sound quality test. But I can say they are quite comfortable. This is the second set of NighthHawks I currently own. Audioquest has recently gotten out of the headphone business, probably because the market is so limited for high-priced headphones. Now they can concentrate on their incredibly overpriced cable business.

  • I returned the headphones because the sound signature in the treble range was not to my liking.

The sound quality is pretty accurate in the bass, mid bass and lower treble regions but to my ears the upper treble seemed strained and not as accurate as it could be, but again the sound signature that my ears discern is not especially to my liking others may like it. The build quality and comfort are very good. The company that I dealt with was very responsive and helpful in resolving my concerns about these headphones.

  • Game changing heaphones

These headphones are just like the reviews. Awesome bass, midrange and treble. The treble never gets to be too much. Excellent detail and open sounding. They do leak sound. Partially open. Very comfortable. Easy to drive. Better than headphones that cost a lot more.
