Lankum are a band that play by their own rules. This is traditional music in its most raw and basic form. The instruments are played in a very simple way (no classically trained musicians here) but man does it work with Radie Peats voice, eg. first track is only voice over a simple drone all the way through the track. I suppose Lankum could be classed as a Folk band with Punk sensibilities and it really works. I'm very glad I bought this album.Go ahead, buy it and have something unique in your music collection.

An amazing collection of tradional songs, play with raw energy, fragility and beauty. The recording is crystal clear transporting you into the room in which these musicians play. There is a sense of a punk attitude, but more in the sense of Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds, than say the Pogues, who would make a very lazy and uninformative, but inevitable comparison. This is a band in the same vein as Pentangle, the Incredible String Band or Lau. Check out their earlier work, when they were called Lynched too.
