(2005) John Hillcoat's film, scripted by Nick Cave, stars Guy Pearce and Danny Huston as Charlie and Arthur Burns, two brutal outlaws in Australia's outback of the 1880s. Charlie becomes revolted by his brother's increasing violence and, with younger brother Mikey (Richard Wilson), parts company with him. But the pair fall into the hands of Captain Stanley (Ray Winstone), a British police officer determined to bring law and order to Australia. He offers Charlie a proposition: hunt down and kill Arthur, or Mikey will hang. Emily Watson stars as Stanley's wife Martha and John Hurt has a superb cameo as Jellon Lamb, an English bounty hunter. However, the three leads steal the film, along with cameraman Benoît Delhomme, whose shots of the bleak, bleached landscape make the Outback almost a vision of hell.
