Robert Aldrich's classic drama stars James Stewart as Frank Towns, pilot of a plane transporting workers and cargo from an oilfield back to town. Caught in a sandstorm, the plane crashes hundreds of miles off its course, and the radio is destroyed. As the days go by, all hope of rescue fades - until Heinrich Dorfmann announces he is an aeroplane designer and, by cannibalising the wrecked plane, he can build a craft to fly them to safety. The outstanding cast also includes Richard Attenborough, Peter Finch, Ernest Borgnine, Ian Bannen and Ronald Fraser.
