About this product

Product Information

Seductive. Brilliant. Inquisitive. Caring. Imagine having the ability to program somebody to be exactly what you want them to be. That's the idea behind the advanced artificial technology that would seek to bring an android to life with advanced problem-solving and communicative skills. In 'Ex Machina,' a young programmer (Domhnall Gleeson) is selected to evaluate an android named Ava (Alicia Vikander) that the mysterious CEO (Oscar Issac) of a hi-tech company promises is the most complex A.I. ever invented. This gripping thriller finds both of them being manipulated and deceived by this beautiful android who may prove to be smarter than either of these brilliant men. Enjoy this trippy sci-fi tale that offers a vivid glimpse-and perhaps, a warning-of what a future with too much artificial intelligence may look like.

    Who doesn't like sexy robots?

A modern twist on the Pygmalion myth. A well-acted film that offers more questions than it answers. Are we destined to create our own replacements in the ascent of the species? Both suspenseful and erotic. The carefully crated effects are truly mesmerizing.

    AI Sci-Fi flick

Mediocre sci-fi movie. Very little action & few characters. All about a genius who has invented the ultimate AI, but for what purpose is unclear. The characters all play mind games with each other, to see who's the smartest? The ending is no surprise, pretty transparent. This a one time view flick, I wouldn't watch again....seriously dull. Rating 1 to 10, this is a dull 4.

  • Ok, but IMO not as good as expected.

I give this movie a .. 2 .. IMO ..... the characters, or should I say the script and directing leaves more to be expected.... maybe too cerebral orientated and not enough action for me. Rent or stream this movie don't purchase it ....IMO ..only..... I actually fell asleep while watching...... I could go on but, blah, blah, blah.

  • Character at its Best

This movie is about humanity and whether a line can be erased between artificial and biological intelligence. The question is asked when does a machine stop being an object and transforms into a real valued entity. The movie Blade Runner asked the same question but with a heavy dose of action. Ex Machina is an emotional and intellectual exercise on this theme, it's all about the characters. The AIs (artificial intelligent beings) are more real than their creator (played by Oscar Isaac) who is basically a self-absorbed genius. He's the antagonist in this movie and has no compassion for his AIs. Alicia Vikander is Ava, the focus of this story. Her personality and unique looks (credit goes to the special effects team) make her an instant draw. Her character is addicting, you can't help liking her and empathizing with her. Domhnall Gleeson is the main human character, Caleb, who is recruited by Isaac to study Ava. As the story progresses he moves away from admiration of the Isaac character to protectiveness of Ava. This movie is a gem, a definite keeper if you have a video library.

  • Thought provoking take on artificial intelligence.

I just watched the movie at home for the first time. I had seen it at the theaters. We paused it and discussed what we thought was going on. This was a small Si Fi film that slipped on by most people. Nice bit of intrigue as to who was testing whom. What was the final produce the designer was after? He was stuck in the computer up grade loop. It would have to be broken by the A.I., and it was.

  • An excellent look at A.I.

While EX MACHINA has (some) inherent character flaws (in my humble opinion)...and ONE which I found glaringly unbelievable....the overall premise is not only entertaining, but most definitely "thought provoking". A superb exploration into the possible pitfalls of creating an Artificial Intelligence, EX MACHINA succeeds wildly, gaining a prominent place in the "new" science fiction genre. Can easily be placed in a category alongside of ARRIVAL. Very highly recommended!

  • An Awesome Journey

This movie is simply put, an Awesome Journey! All the characters are extremely engaging & you really feel the level of human emotion towards a machine. There are so many different twists & turns that keep you guessing, but almost always coming up wrong lol. Highly recommended as an edition to your collection, one of my wife's absolute favorites!

  • More than what you would expect.

After watching this DVD I was not expecting the outcome until it happened. This is a sophisticated science fiction themed film that makes you wonder if this could happen in our time if not already. The characters are interesting to follow and like the sleeve said "A Mesmerizing Spellbinder".
