Purchased this to attach awning to a nissan v200 van for camping. It was secure enough not to be blown away as I initially thought may happen. Could be cut down to size for this or smaller van but also fit larger van such as transit or vw. I found it was more secure on the van placed about a foot in on the flat surface rather than on the edge. You can't always tell how these will be when viewing on a site but this is good quality. On the downside I found that 2 of the 3 magnetic strips had been sewn in the wrong way, so do double check if you find it isn't attaching as expected. I just undid the stitching on 2 compartments which where about 2 inches . I found this easier than to return and paying for postage. Was a quick and easy job, no expert needed.

Having read previous reviews (a mixture of good and indifferent) I was quietly optimistic - after all how difficult is to sew 3 magnets the right way round into a covering. . Well plainly quite difficult as 1 of the 3 is the wrong way round so 2 magnets pick up whilst the other limply hangs on then drops off ishould an overweight fly land on it. Unpick the stitching and then remove and reinsert the errant magnet and all seems well.Yet to be tested in with an awning the field but magnets appear to attach well so far. Forgot to amend the stars - sorry but one star as it did arrive on time. Update - Meant to add that I attempted to use this down in Devon last year. The magnets did attach to the side of the van for at least 20 seconds until a fairy light breeze caused one of the magnets to come away and he weight of that unmagnetised magnet caused the remaining two magnets to work loose. Tried it again a couple more times - same result. The magnets in my connector just weren't strong enough for the task so can't endorse this positively at all. The magnets simply aren't strong enough That said, I now have an abundance of fridge magnet strips and can post lots of notes to myself in the kitchen!! Read full review

Not used 'in anger' yet but have tried it on the van and it's a great, easy to use method of connecting awning to van. The magnets should hold in a reasonable wind, maybe if a storm is brewing I might use supporting straps (already on the awning). Product is well made. Note: some other on-line reviews noted that the magnets were not up to it - this is probably because they were being used the wrong way around or one or more magnets were not put in correctly at the factory. There is a definite stronger pull to one side of the magnetic strips, easily tested by attaching to a metal surface. On the connector we received, 2 of the 3 magnetic strips were OK - for the 3rd we unpicked the pocket seam, took the magnet out and flipped it over so it's polarity matched the other strips, put it back in it's pocket and sewed the seam back up.Read full review

The magnetic strip was fine. The problem was the figure of 8 strips that came with it. All 3 broke so we couldn't use it on our stay away which was a nightmare because we had to tie the awning over the top of the van and the front damaged the wind deflector on the front of my van. Compared against some figure of 8 I already had but didn't take that time the Outwell strips were smaller with thinner openings hence why we could not thread it on even with washing up liquid and eventually split and broke.
