Strange and complex geometric designs, created to ward off the 'evil eye' and thwart the works of the devil, share church pillars with the heraldic shields of England's medieval nobility.

Good but could be better.
Yes a very interesting book,quite a few good illustrations,but could be improved by many more,as pictures are better than word's. The chapter on scratch dials,I would have to disagree with many of the comments,and clocks WERE NOT COMMON, especially not on country churches,even before the 19 th century.. But overall an excellent book,on an unusual subject.
