  • Excellent

Clear explanations and work exercises, 12 step friendly. Whilst there are a few authors writing in this area of recovery whom I've read, For me Darlene Lancer deals with issues better than any of them. It's a must read.

  • Will the real me please stand up

Have only read the first two chapters which explain what codependency is and what it's not, and the issues that codependency brings. I wasn't sure if I could identify with the ideas in this book but in actual fact I can see myself in many of the typical traits described. It does say that recovery is possible but as yet I haven't read enough to be able to comment. There are various exercises that can be carried out, but again these come later on. So far it is a compelling and informative read and I hope it proves useful.

  • Cant recommend this book enough!

Excellent book helped me greatly! I came from a narcissistic, codependent, dysfunctional family, and this book made me understand all my feelings resulting from being raised in this type of environment. Family members played me against my fear of abandonment, rejection, fear etc, but now i understand all this i have healed from my fear and now focus on myself and my own family, without fear of cutting out the toxic manipulators in my life. Cant recommend this book enough!

  • Well written, easily understood comprehensive introduction to understanding codependency

This is a very useful book for those who are trying to understand codependency. Whereas there are a lot of references to codependents who are enabling drug or alcohol addicts, the book is broader and allows the reader to understand the sources of codependency as well as a range of behavioural and relationship outcomes. Well recommended as a starting point, most likely needs to be followed through with conversations with a trained therapist.
