About this product

Product Information

Key texts in the renowned Oxford Chemistry Primers series have been fully refreshed and updated to suit the needs of today's students, lecturers, and postgraduate researchers. The rigorous and yet accessible treatment of each subject area is ideal for those wanting to know more about a particular topic not covered comprehensively in existing undergraduate texts. Moreover, cutting-edge examples and applications throughout the texts show the relevance of the chemistry being described to the real world. Pericyclic reactions constitute a fundamental class of organic chemistry, including such commercially important synthetic reactions as the Diels-Alder reaction. This primer gives a concise and accessible account of these reactions, enabling students to recognise the different types of pericyclic reaction and understand their application in organic synthesis.

  • Pericyclic chemistry as succinct as possible in a short primer.

Ian Fleming always writes His Chemistry books in a clear, concise and elegant manner. His introduction which refers to his time in the Woodward group is very interesting. He gives a full description of pericyclic chemistry which is of value to undergraduates and interest to more experienced chemists. His previous books on frontier orbitals feeds into the substance of this text. Compelling? well yes to an ancient organic chemist like me.
