  • Everything to know before you go or need to fix this unique vehicle.

Packed with mission details, and the anatomy of each significant module, this book enables the reader to know and recognise the architecture, systems and science facilities on the ISS. It will help put ISS interior videos and EVA spacewalk activities into context. It starts way back with the first realistic space station concepts and the Soviet/Russian predecessors. It is heavy on the chronological approach: this mission brought this module and these astronauts, then that mission brought those and those, etc. etc. There are some signs of inadequate editing in the edition this reviewer is reading - sentence structures and some typos in facts and figures. There is plenty of room on these big glossy pages for photos, artist impressions and a variety of plans and diagrams. A worthwhile read for the would-be or armchair astronauts among us, and any space fan. Gripe: not enough information on the tools and tool-belts, tethers, magnets or whatever, used by space-based mechanics to retain hand tools and small parts. David Baker was in the right place at the right time to master the facts, and I will not take any trip to the Moon before I read his companion Haynes Apollo Manual.
