A good basic guide
If you are new, or relatively new, to digital photography this is a good basic guide with clear information and many suggestions for experiments that you can carry out to get more familiarity and understanding of your camera and photography in general. (Most of the book is equally applicable to conventional film cameras, also). As with most Doring Kindersley books, it is well laid out and abundantly illustrated.

COMPREHENSIVE BUT STILL COMPLEX
This is a really good attempt to involve photographers and help them understand the mechanics of a DSLR camera and improve their photography. It is a serious book! Unfortunately it doesn't quite work for me as I find it difficult to plough through and the suggested weekly course approach doesn't suit me. I really wish someone somewhere could demystify DSLR photography: I've bought several books that promise to do so - including Idiots Guides - but all of them become hopelessly involved in technicalities. No wonder most people stick to their phone cameral or merely stick on Automatic! I will plough through this book but chunks of it will be ignored. I'm sure it will help me eventually to become a more knowledgeable and better photographer but it will take time and patience to do so. NOT a quick fix...but perhaps I'm too old and thick to really appreciate this.Read full review

A deeper look into photography
This book is an up to date look at the way to take good photographs with a digital camera. Most of the new camera have a point and shoot mode but for those wanting to understand and use the more intricate fuctions of the digital camera this is the book for you. Was originally bought as a Christmas present but I have ordered one for me now.
