Birds of North America - great illistrations and features

It will help me to identify my backyard birds. The content is complete with pictures and descriptions of birds in my area of Northeastern Pennsylvania. I plan to use it this spring.

    Look Before You Buy.

This is an old standard. It has what you need, but not in an easily accessible presentation. The photos are good, but not great. They lack bright clean detail for easy ID. This guide contains a lot of information. but the type face is incredibly small making it difficult to read and what good is information that you can't read? To use this guide in the field you would need to carry a magnifying glass in addition to binoculars. My suggestion is that if you are considering buying this guide look at an actual copy at the library or bookstore to determine it's usefulness to you. Compare this to the Collins guide which I find much easier and more pleasant to use. I wish I would have read this review before buying the Sibley on line. Love the Birds.

  • Excellent book on birds.

I have Sibley's Guide to Trees and now his Guide to Birds. He is an excellent naturalist, writer and illustrator. For me the font of the edition I bought is too small; otherwise this is an excellent book.
