As I write this I can see a pile of 9 similar hard discs, all made by Seagate or one of their badge engineered names. They are all faulty and in under 4 years. Two 5 year warranty Seagate drives failed but were replaced under warranty. Also on the pile there are two WD discs, one was over 7 years old and the other almost 10 years old when they failed. We have 20+ WD disks in use, mostly in NAS units running RAID and on 24/7 and the last two remaining Seagate units which I would only ever use in a RAID array as I don't trust them. This is a review of a WD disc, so I expect it to last well beyond its warranty period and would recommend to all

I've been attempting to upgrade two 2-Bay NAS drives from 3TB drives to 6TB drives in RAID 1 configuration. Previously I've used Seagate drives but having seen good things written about WD I though I'd try the WD Red 6TB drives which are compatible with my NAS enclosures. So far I've purchased 5 of these, all new, and so far I've got three that work and two that I've had to return after they failed within hours of being Installed. Not a good experience so far given that I only need 4 drives.

As a big time data user I have a lot of hard drives within several desktop PCs. I have 2TB, 4TB and 6TB drives. If a drive fails, which tends to be one of the older 2TB drives I have replaced it with one of these 6TB drives. So far none of these 6TB Red drives have failed and compared with the older 2TB drives very fast indeed. In real world usage I regularly get write speeds of 180MB/s which is ok by me. These are my drives of choice currently. They are purely for data as I use SSDs for the operating system. Recommended!

All Red Labeled Western Digital are top products for storage/NAS/SAN purposes and this drive is no exception. Also noticed that the 6TB is a bit quieter than their 4TB predecessor. It's an amazingly good product and an extremely good value for money. Western Digital, ALWAYS!

Got additional two WD Red 6TB for my home microserver Gen8, already with 2x WB Red’s. This new drives are super efficient and quiet. They working in mirror zpool under FreeNAS. Great performance with 1 gigabit network (~112MB/s) They not running hot, scrubbing is quiet and power usage is still acceptable. I’m happy with this drives.
