    Excellent basic system

Sound quality is excellent. The limitations of the receiver are in the number and types of inputs provided, and the style of connectors for the center and two surround speakers. If you have legacy equipment which you wish to incorporate there are only two composite TV inputs with stereo RCA jack inputs. As with most receivers in this price range there are only 4 HDMI inputs. Since these limitations are easily seen in spec. sheets, they should come as no surprise to buyers. The less obvious limitation is in the surround and center speaker connections. If you have used a heavy gauge speaker wire, it will not fit properly into the back panel connectors. You will need to make lighter gauge pigtails and connect these to your heavy gauge wire with wire nuts or another connector style of your choice.

Good Receiver, But 4K Passthrough is Meaningless

The receiver functions for what it needs to do - mostly. I could never get it to send a 4K signal from my PS4 Pro to my TV. Thankfully, my TV has optical audio output, so I run the PS4 directly to the TV and then pipe the audio into the receiver over optical, but it was still frustrating to find out that "4K passthrough" meant absolutely nothing in practical terms.

  • Nice 5.1 Receiver at a Nice Price

I like all the features in fact there are more than I need. Yamaha definitely made set up easier than my previous receiver. I like the various surround sound programs but found conflicts withe the SCENE function when switching to AV inputs. The remote buttons function like a quality keyboard very unlike my previous receiver. I had no problem with the two types of speaker terminals as some people had complained about. When I tried to register my receiver online, the Yamaha site doesn't recognize, likely because it is out of date. All and all, I would recommend it as a nice deal.

  • An excellent receive for the price

This receiver exceeds what I expected. Excellent price, easy to set up and delivers sound that was better than expected. Not only was I able to attach two DVD players to it I was able to attach my cable box, a CD changer and my laser disc player to the received and channel it all so that they play through my LG 60 inch 4K 3D Television. The only thing lacking is a little more power so that it would more volume.

  • Very happy for the price

I actually bought this receiver months ago I just waited to leave a review to give it time make sure it works and it most certainly does. Hooking it up wasn't to hard had help from a friend but I'll definitely remember how to do it next time. The only real issue I had was sometimes turning it on it would give this flashing purple screens but I guess you have to turn on the tv receiver and cable box in a certain order which once I figured out it stopped doing that. But other then that it works perfectly fine can't imagine watching tv or listening to music without a surround sound system. Plus Game of Thrones season 6 definitely wouldn't have been as lively without it sounds extra points for that.

  • Yamaha AV Receivers are some of the best

I bought this for our bedroom because we don't need too many bells and whistles in there. It just runs some cheapy Samsung L + R +C speakers. I was about to go out to a store and spend $$$$ until I saw this! I've got a RX-V671 in the living room that I've had for about 6 years. It's still going strong. That powers a 7 QSC mids and .1 Velodyne lows system like a champ. That was a deciding factor in continuing purchases of Yamaha amps.

  • Yamaha RX-V377 easy to set up. Great sound.

This receiver is very easy to set up. All connections are clearly labeled on the back. Great for audio receiver or surround sound set up. Price is very reasonable compared to other brands with similar features.

  • Even better than I thought it would be!

I got it for a great price, and my son set it up for me with the speakers I already had. We are very happy with it and the sound is great! I'm finally able to enjoy the base from my subwoofer that has been sitting without being used for so long. Now my son wants to buy one!

  • Solid User Friendly Receiver

Needed a simple, no frills, set-it-and-forget-it surround receiver for the TV my wife watches. I tried to find something as close as possible to the RX-V463 we used for years. This fits the bill nicely. The remote redesign, compared to Yamaha's remote design in years past is much better. This receiver was retrofitted into a vintage console I refurbed. I would highly recommend this receiver for an easy daily driver.

  • Great Value for the Money

My ancient Marantz AV receiver finally gave out and I needed a replacement. The Marantz lived up to their reputation for sound but due to its age, it did not have anything close to the sound effect features of the entry level Yamaha. I believe in stereo mode the Marantz may have an edge for music, but the Yamaha's digital processors provide a wide array of special effects that sets it miles apart from my much older generation unit. What really sets it apart for me is its detail, placement and clarity in their surround sound effects for movies. I have small, but clean sounding and matching small front and center speakers, along with small matching pair of rear speakers from a different manufacturer and a sub and I've never heard therm sound as detailed and balanced as they do with the RX-V377. I am sure it has a lot to do with the auto calibration feature; optimizing all the speakers' focus to where I sit. I also appreciated its ease of set up. Everything is well marked and absolutely intuitive and logical. I had it set up in less than 30 minutes without once referencing the DVD manual. On a side note 1: For someone like me going from a much older receiver to the Yamaha RX-V377 and as a person who does not need a high-end theater size ultimate state of the art sound system, the receiver definitely met all and exceeded many of my expectations and needs without breaking the bank. On a side note 2: I set up the DVD player to HDMI 1 as marked, connected HDMI 2 to the cable box for the sound; but I connected the TV to the cable box using rgb component cables because I also use a soundbar for basic TV needs and by connecting the sound bar using the cable box's digital audio output, I can switch between the sound bar and the Yamaha receiver without having to change any TV input settings (it remains set to Component 1). I also do recommend using a high end set of component cables. I got mine for less than ten bucks but it beat the heck out the much older thin cheap set I had on hand. And once set up and colors are adjusted to my preferences the picture with the component cables are indistinguishable from the HDMI cable. On a side note 3: The receiver also has a surprisingly good tuner; picking up quite a number of weaker stations decently with just the antenna included. I do live in an area that is a challenge to get good reception.
