My old cooling fan was making a horrible whirring sound on start up, so I decided to research a replacement and have a go myself, rather than just replace the entire laptop and felt that £15 was a good gamble compared to a new laptop at the thick end of £1,000. What a great decision! My laptop is now silent again and performing better than it has for some months. So for £15 and about 40 minutes repair time, I am very happy indeed and looking forward to NOT replacing my laptop for at least another year or more? The online tutorial for this repair is pretty good and all i would suggest is that you watch it 2 or 3 times before starting the repair. Put your laptop on a soft padded surface to work on and have a small tray available to keep the many carriage screws that you have to remove to gain access. Other than that, have a go if you have the same problem. If you can use a small screwdriver, this repair is well within the scope of anyone with basic DIY skills.Read full review

Needed this to fix a laptop that had a failed fan. The original fan failed 1 week after the warranty expired, typical for HP. This new replacement part got the machine going again.
