Great Camera!
Purchased this to replace an old Sony DCR-TRV320 analog video camera. WOW what a difference 20 years in technology makes! This thing is almost TOO light. Captures 5.1 audio, and crisp clear video. It will take some time to sort through all the features, but there appear to be plenty. Took videos of folks singing at a birthday party, etc and it's all just excellent video OTHER than allowances for the cameraman. LOVE the microSD card video storage now vs. Hi8 Sony tape. How could you not given the PC tools now available for editing. Was a little surprised at the cost when I actually received and opened the box. It looks so simple. Not many buttons bells or switches at first glance. But once I started to look into the software driven menu options it became pretty clear that there is a LOT to this little gem. So I'm definitely a fan so far. It is not a professional quality video journalists tool. And wasn't designed to be, nor does it cost like one. But it has an EXCELLENT image stabilization that seems to smooth an old man's jitters and bumping around in a crowded room very nicely. Along with a good quality tripod this is a superb camera for most families and general video usage. Has enough features and options, that it seems the $300 price point is reasonable. Wonderful camera.
I have spent some time learning how to use the camera and I'm still learning after several weeks. I have had some bad problems with image files getting corrupted after 30 minutes or so of continuous recording. After considerable experimentation it turns out to be a problem with a cheap 128GB SD card that I bought. After I bought an expensive one at Walmart, all of the problems went away. The camera is pretty easy to use, although the menu system is extensive and a little cumbersome. The imagery resolution, clarity, optical magnification and optical image stabilization are terrific. Very poor touch screen response.
The touch screen is very finicky. You need to improve the screen so that it responds more readily to the touch. I returned the first camera for the same reason. This camera has the same problem. The item is a decent camera but very delicate. If you drop it once, even on soft ground, expect to have issues with the autofocus.
