SynopsisA backstage pass to the groundbreaking, hit musical Hamilton , winner of the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Eleven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, including the award-winning libretto, behind-the-scenes photos and interviews, and exclusive footnotes from composer-lyricist-star Lin-Manuel Miranda, now streaming on Disney+ with the original cast. Lin-Manuel Miranda's groundbreaking musical Hamilton is as revolutionary as its subject, the poor kid from the Caribbean who fought the British, defended the Constitution, and helped to found the United States. Fusing hip-hop, pop, R&B, and the best traditions of theater, this once-in-a-generation show broadens the sound of Broadway, reveals the storytelling power of rap, and claims our country's origins for a diverse new generation. Hamilton: The Revolution gives readers an unprecedented view of both revolutions, from the only two writers able to provide it. Miranda, along with Jeremy McCarter, a cultural critic and theater artist who was involved in the project from its earliest stages -- "since before this was even a show," according to Miranda -- traces its development from an improbable performance at the White House to its landmark opening night on Broadway six years later. In addition, Miranda has written more than 200 funny, revealing footnotes for his award-winning libretto, the full text of which is published here. Their account features photos by the renowned Frank Ockenfels and veteran Broadway photographer, Joan Marcus; exclusive looks at notebooks and emails; interviews with Questlove, Stephen Sondheim, leading political commentators, and more than 50 people involved with the production; and multiple appearances by President Obama himself. The book does more than tell the surprising story of how a Broadway musical became a national phenomenon: It demonstrates that America has always been renewed by the brash upstarts and brilliant outsiders, the men and women who don't throw away their shot., A backstage pass to the groundbreaking, hit musical Hamilton , winner of the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Eleven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, including the award-winning libretto, behind-the-scenes photos and interviews, and exclusive footnotes from composer-lyricist-star Lin-Manuel Miranda, now streaming on Disney] with the original cast. • Wonderful book, a great companion to the Cast Recording!

This book is wonderful! I bought it because I won't get to experience the show anytime soon and I wanted a more in-depth experience than just listening to the cast album (which is AMAZING). It doesn't hurt that it has all of the lyrics printed, including additional verses and a song that's not on the cast recording. I was also interested in how this came from a concept to being a full Broadway musical production. The authors give wonderful insight into the creative process and the behind-the-scenes people who worked so hard to bring this beloved musical to life. I enjoyed the interviews with the on-stage and behind-the-stage cast and crew and will no doubt reread this several times over, it is such a wonderful book!

  • Love the show and love this book!

If you love "Hamilton"- and who does not - you will love this book! "The Revolution" takes you on the same journey the show took. It is like a back stage pass! Lin reveals how the show came to be, explains his thinking as to lyrics, introduces the actors, and others who brought this great show to life, and gives the back story on how they were cast. Has beautiful pictures on lovely paper and complete lyrics with foot notes. Yes, a compelling read!.

  • Fantastic book!

If you can't see the show, this is the next best thing. If you do see the show, or plan to, this will make the experience even better. The notes that Lin-Manuel Miranda has included give a wonderful insight into his thinking while he was writing this spectacular musical. The pictures in this book are worth the price alone. I wish every musical ever produced had a book like this.

  • Stunning Book on the Creation of Hamilton

Not only has Lin-Manuel Miranda composed a musical that turned the world of musical theater on its head, but he's also written a stunning book on the making of said musical! "Hamilton: the Revolution" desbribes in detail what went into the process of making Hamilton, includes gorgeous photos of the cast performances along with Lin's own notes on different scenes, and is basically a treasure for anyone who can't get enough of this musical. I highly recommend it to anyone who's interested in the making of musical theater, as well as to those Hamilton fans who will never be satisfied!
