Another Sony classic but...
Beautiful and sleek design, latest software update at time of writing (Android 7.1), usual easy functionality of an Xperia and Xperia to Xperia transfer a piece of cake with the PC Xperia Companion software. The "but" is Sony's idea of installing a ear proximity sensor which when phone is held to the ear the backlight goes out (I guess it's a battery conservation effort but you can't switch it off). The problem with it is that if you put tempered glass/screen protector on the screen, the ear proximity sensor permanently thinks that the phone is being held to your ear. Not a problem when not making a call but during a call this will make it almost impossible for you to use the keypad (for those automated call services) or to end the call yourself thus you'll rely on the other person to do so. Basically, the screen becomes disabled during calls if the ear proximity sensor is permanently blocked by a screen protector. To get around it you could cut a square out from your protector but nothing you can do with tempered glass. It's a known problem and as of now there's no fix for it. I just take extra care as a result and keep my screen free of any foreign instruments, I have a case that covers the rear and is slightly raised around the front edges to prevent screen from touching ground if dropped and it has its own dedicated pocket in my jacket so that nothing in there with it causes scratches. It's an unusual bad design oversight from Sony, enough to get only 3 stars from me but otherwise the phone is great. Bought as a present, so cannot give complete rundown. However, my girlfroend is delighted with it, and reports no faults. It was the most expensive of its model listed at the time, but seems to have been worth it.
