Simple but feature packed
I will start off by saying that I have always loved Kenwood. My first one was a D-Mask about 15 years ago. This one has a nice clean look to it with modern features such as bluetooth which also handles your phone. Interface is easy to figure out with a lot of options such as a built in equalizer. The only complaints I have is that the reception could be a little better but that may just be the area I am in. The other is the cd door. I have gotten used to Kenwoods motorized faces and find it a little strange to have to manually open the cd access door. I am sure I will get used to it though. The one I purchased was factory refurbished which I have always seemed to have good luck with. The unit looks new and does come with all of the accessories it was supposed to have. Really nice features and sound but!!!
I got this stereo as an upgrade to my old kenwood and got to say its pretty nice. All the features it has and many sound options. My car has the factory speakers and no sound system and this unit gets the most of my speakers with a clear and loud volume. One thing I disliked though is the pre set radio station, kenwood improved the looks of the unit itself but since they didnt put the station manual buttons, its tricky to get the stations to be saved on the memory and I still haven't found how to do it. Overall I'm very satified with what this unit offers but it would be better if kenwood had sent some more instructions of how to operate the unit better, that way persons new to this model could know how to get the most of the unit wothout struggling muchVerified purchase: YesCondition: New

Matches E36 BMW dash perfectly
I put this in my weekend car (E36 M3 Cabrio). I am very picky about the way some of these aftermarket radios look in the dash. I must say that this looks fantastic as the colors match and even the text font is the same. This is replacing a more expensive but older Alpine CDA105 and it sounds much better. There are tons of DSP and EQ settings to toy around with. I've worked in the 12v industry in retail and on the factory side for 10 years and I find it amazing that they can put this much tech in a head unit for this little money. The fact that you can get a full featured head unit with Bluetooth calling, app controls, and excellent sound quality for sub $200 is crazy. The only issue I have is the phone mic. My speakers are alive again
Before I purchased the KDC-X998 I did a little research on the model, being that I'm a Pioneer /Alpine guy. I know that's a big stretch between Alpine and Pioneer, but it is what it is. The feature I love setting this HU apart is the option to tune each band frequency independently, instead of using programed presets. The feature are easy to use and tuning is straight forward. I don't have to use my Clarion EQS746 any more. My sub has its on channel so fine tuning your tweeters and midrange is a breeze. plus you can't go wrong with Bluetooth integrated into my android Galaxy S5, I can make calls without having to touch my phone , nice unit overall .Verified purchase: YesCondition: Refurbished

This is my first kenwood deck, I’ve always had pioneer in the past but hate the new display since they changed from OEL. So cheap looking. This unit looks nice and has a good EQ. I like the door over the cd slot. Keeps dust out. Overall a pretty sweet head unit with lots of display options and a spectrum analyzer. Took 2 to get one to work
First X-998 was defective right out of the box-noise even when car was off!! Second one working fine....knock on wood. Overall, a very feature packed audiophile head unit. Excellent EQ,time alignment and 4 volt preouts make this the best head unit I've owned to date. And please don't listen to the reviews about it being hard to figure out or operate.
