Diamond core drills are to say the least expensive due to not being a mass produced item and the build quality must be more robust. The Makita 8406 and the revised 8406c are the mainstream drills used by the construction industry ie builders, plumbers etc.for one off holes. They will not stand up to continuous drilling, you must opt for Hilti etc which for the average one man band is prohibitive cost wise.So yes it will do the job and I expect it to last me about 2 years. Most problems stem not from the drill itself but the cores either blunt or cheap China copies or abuse, buy a decent set of cores and you will prolong your core drills life.
a powerful, long lasting core drill that does what it should. an oldish model now but still going strong. having had one of the newer replacement models this is still preferable with less to go wrong. sturdy case. all typical makita.

Could do with a longer extension in kit as had to purchase one so could go through my 3 foot thick walls but got there after buying extension. Good quality kit and cut through whinstone walls no bother with 127mm core.
