Good reliable USB 3 hard drive that does not require a separate power supply.
There's not much to say really, it's a hard drive and it works. I have three of these identical units and use them for archiving photos along with nine other drives of various makes. In ten years I have had two drive failures, both total losses, but neither drive was one of these Maxtors. I surface scan the drives before use and have never seen defects right out of the box. The drive is powered via the USB connection, so a separate PSU is not needed, which is convenient. Note that two of my Maxtors used the standard MBR (Master Boot Record) type file table, the latest one came formatted with GPT. Both of these systems will work on modern PCs, but the newer GPT will not be readable by older machines running, for instance, Windows XP.

So easy to use
So easy to use - just plug in & go after windows has installed the driver. Operation speed is limited by my old PC having only USB2 connections, but impressively quick when run over USB3! Doesn't need an external power source and is virtually silent in operation. Has been perfectly reliable so far - only time will tell...... This is a very useful bit of kit for running o/s backups and for transferring files between my pc's, which I can't network together thanks to that dumb Homegroup thing in Windows7. I have no hesitation in recommending this product.

Very good value
Could not believe that one could buy a 2TB drive for only £50 so was not expecting anything wonderful but purchased it because of the Seagate name and also because I wanted a drive which could be powered via the USB connection. I was pleasantly surprised and will use this to Backup & archive my photographs until such time as SSD prices fall far enough for me to purchase an SSD of similar size. Cannot really comment on reliability as I have not had it long enough and wonder why so many requests for reviews ask this question which cannot really be answered.

The drive is reliable as I've reformatted and repartitioned it several times without any issues. It's quiet and fairly heat efficient, not much heat. Read spead is fair but the write speed is slow as with most HDDs.

I bought this drive about a month ago and it has performed perfectly every time. You get everything needed for straight forward plug n play usage. I recommend using your usb3.0 port for speed approaching that of your onboard drive. Seamless drag and drop file transfer helps with data maintenance. My stand alone security and virus software has no trouble at all as well. Smart looking, very quiet and compact enough for taking anywhere. Superb kit!
