  • Great kit, Easy to fit, Happy with it!

Great item. It came with everything that could be required to fit it, right up to a couple of tie wraps to dress the cables. Everything goes together very logically and without fuss. The only tools needed were a 10mm spanner, a screwdriver and a Stanley knife. I used a decent compass for set up and a Humax box with the right signal tool included (that will become clear later). Rubber boots to cover the plugs, useful but not essential, are not included but can be had very cheaply elsewhere if you feel they are necessary. (Might be a nice add in to the next generation of the kit?) Electrical connections are easy with the usual screw on F-type connectors. Add the rubber boots over the cables if you use them, fit the plug (no special tools required), connect up and slide the boot over the plugs to protect them against water ingress. I also added a couple of blank plugs with short cable pigtails to the unused sockets to protect them for future use too. I was a little worried about alignment without a specialist signal strength meter. It was no problem, it seems the alignment range is wider than I imagined. In my freesat box there is a software signal strength and quality display which made it easy to get a signal and max it out. A search online found a great site which told me my bearing (direction), azimuth (upwards tilt) and polarisation angle (twist of the LNB head) for where I live in the UK. (Look for "Dishpointer satellite alignment tool".) The dish LNB has a spirit level to square things up and simple azimuth and polarisation indicators are stamped or moulded into the body. Adjustment of each is very simple. All it took then was to preset the polarisation of the LNB and the azimuth of the dish (upward tilt angle) to the site's calculation, fit to the pole and align according to a compass. It jumped straight into life. With my wife watching the meter on the STB while on the mobile phone to me up the ladder, it took seconds to maximise the signal. Swing it to left and right a small amount and check where signal level drops off, then centre it between these points and nip up. Once alignment is set do the same for the vertical tilt. We have solid 100% Strength and Quality even in fairly high winds with no specialist experience. Specialist fitters will do a better job I'm sure, but it was easy for me to do a passable and working one myself. This dish is a Zone 2 type and as such is 20cm larger than the older Zone 1 types. It will create higher wind loads which you should consider in choosing your mounting setup but it also gives higher signal levels giving you more leeway with the accuracy of your fitment. If you have the slightest DIY skills, masonry drilling may be required, and you are SAFE UP A LADDER WHERE NECESSARY FOR YOUR OWN MOUNT, then setting up this kit is a very easy job. Based on my experience I'd definitely give it my highest recommendation.
