Very good router

DD-WRT and Nord-VPN
I bought this Router to enhance my VPN Secure Gateway, previously a WRT54G running DD-WRT. To convert to DD-WRT: I did a Factory Reset, flashed the R7800 with the latest Linksys Firmware via the GUI then, Factory Reset,flashed Factory-DD-WRT, Factory Reset. I then flashed the latest Kong DD-WRT. All went v.well and FASTI OpenVPN: First I saved the base config, next, I configured the inbuilt OpenVPN service under the Services Tab for NordVPN - I used the NordVPN instructions on their website (Server IP, config. TLS and CA details). hit Save and then Apply and Bingo! Worked first time. I then saved the Config. I also configured the DD-WRT anti Adware script from the DD-WRT site. Again, trouble free and working flawlessly. Performance: I have measured my Broadband Bandwidth direct off the back of my ISP Router pre and post VPN (direct off the R7500 Switch ports) and there was no appreciable drop in performance (Over 68MB up and over 17MB down). Compared with the WET54G I was previously using it a quantum improvement and one would not know a VPN is in operation unless one does a Whoer test. The Quad Core CPU clearly makes this an ideal VPN Gateway In short, I thoroughly recommend this router as a site VPN Gateway, using Kong DD-WRT and NordVPN. A beast for DD-WRT and running openvpn.
Takes minutes to setup and flash with DD-WRT. Extremely powerful hub to run all your connected devices. I have this set up with an HG612 modem also purchased on ebay with BT infinity2 and managing 82Mbit down and 19.8Mbit up, and that's through the VPN! Multiple devices, native support for BT tv boxes, expanded wifi channel frequencies and all the features demanded from a premium router. Upgraded from an R7000 Nighthawk router and this X4S R7800 simply blows it out of the water in sheer heavyweight power and features.
