I bought the 3.5 mm kit which I would imagine people buy specifically to reclaim stripped threads in electrical metal back boxes. I certainly did. The kit is good for this task and it saves all the effort and mess of bolstering out the old box and replacing it. One thing to note, it does not come with a tap wrench, you have to make your own arrangements for that. Because the threaded post on a back box is so thin, the tang breaking tool supplied (which is just a metal rod) does not do the job. I found it best to insert something like a putty knife into the box and bend the excess coil through 90 degrees towards the side of the box.

An excellent quality item. Good instructions supplied, and very simple to use. If using on a softer material, such as aluminium, the resulting fixing is far more durable than an un-lined tapping.
