I have used the pipe bender for chrome-plated 8mm size tubing. With bends more than (about) 45 degrees the chrome plating can flake off on the inside of the bend, but I think that this may be a problem of the tubing rather than the pipe bender. There are two handles, one fixed to the curved bending surface the other folds back so that the pipe bender can fit into its cardboard box. In use, the folding handle has to be positioned at 180 degrees to the fixed handle, with the pipe to be bent clamped into its correct sized slot on the curved bending surface. The flat upper surface (on the folding handle) sits above the pipe. When all of this is set up the two handles (pointing in opposite direction) are used to bend the pipe, usually braced against one's knee (or something similar). The bending surface is marked in degrees so that the bend can be made accurately. I found the pipe bender quite fiddly to set up (which is why 4 stars and not 5), but once it is set up with the pipe in position, the results are good.Read full review

Nothing obvious wrong with the construction of the item. A bit stiff in places making it tricky to adjust but perfectly usable. Tried using it on some 10mm pipe and ruined all 2 metres of it because every time the pipe would get squashed. I was trying to get three bends in a relatively short distance so maybe that's pushing the limits of what this kind of tool can do but even the first bend on a straight piece of pipe wasn't always succesfull. Hard to tell if a more experienced user would have had more success but I certainly wouldn't recommend this particular pipe bender.

Worked fine on copper tube, the bender is fairly solidly made and comfortable to use. Tried bending some aluminium tube but it kept snapping until I annealed tubing in a gas flame so was softened then worked well too. As usual with tube benders you need three hands to get & hold tube in the right place plus hold the handles at the same time so working on my own it was much easier to use with one handle of the bender clamped in a bench vice Probably won't use a huge amount but it's not expensive so can make a neat bend compared to cost of wrecking a few lengths of tubing trying other solutions. Chose this model over slightly cheaper versions as had steel not cast alloy handles so should take bit heavy work (although guide and shaping formers are alloy).

This is a good quality tool - ideal for brake pipe pre-forming, either on the car (if space permits) or on the work bench. Easy to use, grips pipe well and avoids creases in the pipe when forming bends. It also has some bend angles marked on the back plate to help when matching bends on either end of a brake pipe. Good value, nicely made and easy to use. I bought it for a particular job and I'm pleased with the results.
