Great for gaming and music listening. Best for this price

This headphone is an old model. Originally released almost a decade ago. I bought it because the price was too good to not get it, it was recommended alot on audio forums for entry level studio headphones, and because they're open back they are amazing for gaming. They have a wide sound stage, which will be even better if you use it with a good DAC/Amp, and the positional tracking (imaging) is very good too. The treble is a bit harsh, some people maybe find it tiring and might give a headache so I suggest use an equaliser and lower some of the higher frequencies, that makes it more enjoyable. They have good bass, not too overwhelming but they are semi-open back so don't expect too much bass. The mids and highs are clear and crisp, just tame the treble with an EQ. The stock pads are pretty bad, they irritated my ear and got hot, replaced them with some velour pads that are meant for the AKG K240 and they fit perfectly and they're much more comfortable and increase the sound stage slightly too. The clamping force is a bit too much, i left them overnight on a box that is wider than head width, around 20cm wide. It did help alleviate some pressure but theyre still a bit tight. Leave them on the box the came in for a day or 2. I've read that people have done some mods which make them sound even better, like putting 2 or 3 ply tissue paper under the foam on top of the driver to help reduce treble. Some have done resoldering of the cables, and others have replaced the cabling for some higher quality which apparently makes them sound better, but I'm not sure about that one. For gaming these are amazing! That's the reason I bought them. The positional audio queues are accurate and the wide sound stage lets me hear enemies coming from a good distance, which would get even better with a budget headphone amplifier like the Fiio E10k. Depending on how well the game audio is mixed, you will have a great improvement in your gaming sessions and performance. Other than the treble, the stock earpads, and the clamping force(all of which can be fixed relatively easily), this is a great value headphone. Cheap and made to mod. Great all around value for gaming, music, movies. The HD681 Evo are also worth looking at. And the Samson SR850.

  • Most critical review

    Overtight headband causes discomfort.

I have Superlux 681 headphones but the plastic headband tore so these looked less likely to fail. The sound quality is good but too bassy for me although some will like that. I like the 2 different detachable cables that come with these headphones. The biggest problem however with these is that they are incredibly tight around the head and get uncomfortable after just a few minutes (and I have a small head). What happened in R & D that made them fail to notice this problem with the sprung steel headband. Currently the phones, when not being used, live opened across the width of their box to hopefully stretch the steel headband and make them more comfortable.

  • Best headphones for the price

At £30-35 these headphones have features you'd expect to pay double the price for. Comfortable to wear for long periods, with large over-ear closed cups, and padded wire frame instead of headband. Flexible rather than size adjustable. It has a 2" male connector on the left cup, extended by the 1m or 3m female-to-male cables provided. Small to large jack converter included. Most important: The response curve is almost flat. Clear but not booming bass, slight hissing at high end. Clear, detailed sound. Suitable for studio work but also ordinary listening.

  • 100% recommend these to anyone. High quality sound and solid build quality.

These sound fantastic! I was listening to a song and someone coughed and it sounded like they were in my room. Ive found new words in songs that I didnt even know existed. Id recommend you get the velour earpads though as the ones that come with it are like tyres squeezed against your ears. Having never heard of superlux I was a little sceptical but now I'd say they're definitely up there with the top brands no doubt!

  • Great headphones for the price

Great mixing/monitoring studio headphones, detailed with a bright sound signature. They do not substitute higher priced headphones like Beyerdynamics DT990 or AKG K701, these are 5 to 9 times the price. That said, they're amazing for the price. Bass is not very pronounced, but present from 20/30Hz. They cost me £20, and have already proven to be a definite upgrade over my old Behringer HPS3000. Pair these with a commercial good amplifier with stereo speakers for checking mix balance (they're bright on the highs, you need to make sure your mixes aren't muddy), and you're good to go. Good for mixing every genre except dance or pop. Not very pleasant for listening purposes. If you're looking for headphones to listen to music but are on a budget, try the HD681 or HD330 instead.

  • Great sound for dirt cheap

Product came quickly and as described. Audio quality is really great, but you can see the price in the quality of materials used, custom earpads are a must have. These headphones can be too tight for some, but you can bend them slightly to make them fit better. Overall they're great headphones, one of the best you can find in this price range.

  • Great headphones. Great price.

The superlux hd668b headphones are large over ear semi open headphones. They have an unusual semi top padded band. They are very comfortable. The tension is perfect. I wear glasses and find that a lot of headphones press my ears on to the arms of my glasses making them uncomfortable. I can wear these all night with no problem. The earpads are nice and soft too. And they are pretty light too. They come with 2 lengths of cable which are attached by the left can The sound quality is excellent. Well balanced Good Bass bright treble. Well rounded and balanced. Can't really fault them at all for the price. The build quality is excellent too and look like they will last a long time.

  • Much better than expected great headphones at any price!

I bought these after hearing some reviews ..I was looking at getting HD25's but as they are now around £160 I thought I would try these in the mean time. After using HD25's for years I can say that the sound on these headphones really do compare. To be honest I think these are more comfortable and the bass on these is more pleasing as the HD25's can be too piercing . These headphones have a great sound stage and are clear as a bell with nice bass, mid and high notes which are controlled and crisp . I would'nt hesitate at the price

  • If you look for heavy bass sound look elsewhere

Yes, these are powerful, more more powerful than the HD681 I had before. However they're quite low on the bass side which becomes even less the higher the volume, while the treble and middle are a bit "rough". Overall, yes, high definition sound indeed at the expense of overall sound quality. If you're used to pairs with less emphasis on bass these should really do the job perfectly, however if bass is what you like you might want to look elsewhere.

  • Sounds good

Comfortable headphones. Large enough for most heads but not overly big. Sound is bight and clear. Not loads of bass but acceptable. Two audio cables are useful. Excellent considering the price point.
