Effective low(er) cost solution for internet control of home heating
I bought this because my combi boiler already had a Honeywell thermostat and relay box (the thing that attaches to the boiler). This unit replaced the room thermostat - it is not possible to use the mobile phone app without the single-zone thermostat. You also need a gateway, which wires directly to your router and handles communication over the internet. Setup was easy enough but required Honeywell tech support to walk me through it. They were excellent, and took me step by step through the process. When you get the thermostat talking to the gateway, and the gateway talking to Honeywell's mytotalconnectcomfort web site, it all works fine. Your old wireless room stats MUST be detached from the gateway properly. Once again, the quality of the phone support means as much as the quality of the product. The big benefit for me has been accurate and consistent room temperature control, which seems way better than with the old wireless room stat. I'm not sure why, it just does. You set it to 21.0 degrees and it stays right at that temperature all day. The phone app works well, but could use better documentation or help pages. The good thing is that you have much more programmability, so you can set any number of on/off times for any day of the week, and overrrde them remotely. The alternative to this product is one of the "Nest" type controllers, which are way more expensive, especially as they require professional installation. As I had a relay box already installed (for my old wireless room stat) I did not have to do anything to the boiler. Note the cost of the other items (gateway and relay box) before you buy, although my unit also contained a relay box included for some reason. It would still require a gas professional to wire it to your boiler. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase. I suspect it will save a fair amount of gas, especially if you use the Away and vacation features to turn off your heating while it is not required.

Batteries removed and packaging poor
Having purchased this item from a normal shop I Know the item comes with batteries from the manufacturer. These have been removed. Also packaging was poor providing little protection. Price reasonable.

Accurate room control
I use a couple of these thermostats slaved to radiator valves as part of my Evohome system. Used in the rooms we use the most, they have eliminated temperature fluctuations in those rooms which can be caused by objects placed in front of radiator valve sensors, or doors being opened and closed. My only complaint is they read in 0.5 degree intervals, and i would prefer them to read in 0.1 intervals. The two i use have transformed my Evohome system from a great energy saver into a system i can completely forgot about. The rooms just feel right.
