SynopsisWas What's My Line TV Star, media icon, and crack investigative reporter and journalist Dorothy Kilgallen murdered for writing a tell-all book about the JFK assassination? If so, is the main suspect in her death still at large? These questions and more are answered in former CNN , ESPN , and USA Today legal analyst Mark Shaw's 25th book, The Reporter Who Knew Too Much . Through discovery of never-before-seen videotaped eyewitness interviews with those closest to Kilgallen and secret government documents, Shaw unfolds a "whodunit" murder mystery featuring suspects including Frank Sinatra, J. Edgar Hoover, Mafia Don Carlos Marcello and a "Mystery Man" who may have silenced Kilgallen. All while by presenting through Kilgallen's eyes the most compelling evidence about the JFK assassinations since the House Select Committee on Assassination's investigation in the 1970s. Called by the New York Post , "the most powerful female voice in America," and by acclaimed author Mark Lane the "the only serious journalist in America who was concerned with who killed John Kennedy and getting all of the facts about the assassination," Kilgallen's official cause of death reported as an overdose of barbiturates combined with alcohol, has always been suspect since no investigation occurred despite the death scene having been staged. Shaw proves Kilgallen, a remarkable woman who broke the "glass ceiling" before the term became fashionable, was denied the justice she deserved, that is until now. The Reporter Who Was Never Able to Share What She Knew

As of this review, I have only finished about 60% of the book. Thus far it is a book without equal on a subject that needs to be pursued and give Dorothy Kilgallen her day in the sun and due justice denied her. I usually will have nothing to do with a book that starts dealing in conspiracy theories. And the conspiracy theories didn't start coming in until about half way through the book. But THIS IS ONE CONSPIRACY THEORY that finally makes sense because of how Mark Shaw researched the book and his presentation as a lawyer and author. His careful research along with his carefully crafted words make for a decidedly intelligent read. I have just recently returned to watch the old What's My Line on YouTube. These episodes offer an unvarnished look into Dorothy Kilgallen's excellence as a reporter. With nearly each passing episode to see her operate is an experience that I would hope that readers of this book will avail themselves. It also represents TV during the years where programming did not cater to the lowest common denominator and there was no fear of display of wealth and taste on the part of the lady panelists. But by far Dorothy Kilgallen is truly the game-playing and winning star, done with ease and intelligence. The portion unfinished is awaiting and I might update this entry then. I would like to think that course work in universities offering degrees in broadcast research and reporting would develop a unit that Dorothy would teach. Then, set the students on a path that has a very clear orientation that reporting and not muckraking is their charge as reporters who carry a responsibility to the public, not to try and make a name for themselves. The reporters who stumbled onto the Watergate affair were in to research and report, not to gain fame through who can provide the most titillating next headline on tomorrow's newspaper. Dorothy is clearly a role model to be emulated and Shaw's book is an intimate look at her through his transparent writing.

    what a story

This figure moved gracefully among the disparate worlds of print journalism and show business. Her reputation was impeccable, and she became one of those individuals whose integrity and love of the truth rankled those who thrived in a corrupt, thuggish system. She deserves to be more well known, and this book helps. But it's author is guilty of sensationalistic tabloid-style speculation, and the grammar and syntax scream for a red pencil.

  • Page Turner!

This book is fantastic! Reels you in from page one. Keeps your interest I had wanted this book for months, & now that I have it, I can't stop reading it! It's about Dorothy Kilgallen, who was a panelist on What's My Line? for many years. But she also was a journalist, and a very good one, that took her job seriously. This book may be more popular with people that are over 50. I'm old enough that I remember Dorothy & What's My Line? & a lot of the people in the book. My main interest was what role Dorothy played in the investigation of the Kennedy assassination. It's very intriguing & I highly recommend it! Even if you're under 50!

  • Was Dorothy Kilgallen murdered?

This fairly recent book is a fantastic read for a possible murder case that occurred over fifty years ago. The author painstakingly goes through the available evidence as well as surviving participants in an endeavor to see if famed journalist and TV personality Dorothy Kilgallen was murdered. While there is no obvious smoking gun, the facts laid out herein are compelling and it is to be hoped that this book may prompt further investigations.

  • Dorothy Kilgallen

Mark Shaw has done an excellent job of presenting the facts of this fifty plus mystery murder case of a woman investigative reporter/journalist. The book is a page turner and offers a bit of history concerning hollywood, NYC, and mafia involvement in political matters.

  • A true story that required frther investigationyle on a worthy subject falls just short

Crisp writing, a worthy subject but lack of media investigation by the 4th estate lets us down in the end. The writer at least tries to revive the sleeping giant of democracy.

  • A must read for anyone who thinks LBL, The Mafia and the CIA were behind the Murders

The True story of Dorothy Killgallon. Wonderful , filled with intriging details about the JFK conspiracy. A real shame she was murdered and covered up by "our" Government. Was her Husband murdered also?
