  • A rather nice 1/35 M48A5 Patton tank kit by Academy

A rather nice kit of a less well-known version of the M48 Patton tank. With the kit having originally been produced by Academy the best part of 30 years ago, inevitably it's less detailed than the more recent kit of the M48A5 by Dragon but is generally more accurate overall, without the dimensional/shape errors in the Dragon kit. It is also significantly cheaper than the Dragon kit. Being an "old school" modeler, I'd rather start off with the more accurate kit and add any missing detail I considered important than try and fix basic inaccuracies in a more detailed kit - making the Academy kit a better option than the Dragon one for me. A further difference that may be of significance to some modelers (though a bit academic for me as I intend to build it as a US vehicle) is that unlike the Dragon kit, which only contains parts for the US version, the Academy kit has alternative parts for both the US and upgraded South Korean versions of the M48A5.
