Additional InformationJohn Nada (Roddy Piper) is a quiet loner, a drifter who gets work where ever he can find it. While working on a construction site in L.A. and sleeping in a vagrant community at night, John stumbles upon a secret society of alien beings who pose as wealthy and powerful people in human society. John joins a rebel group commited to exposing this conspiricy, and becomes their reluctant leader and the only hope of the human race. Wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper is outstanding as the unassuming hero, playing the role with understated shock at what he uncovers and stubborn courage when he confronts it. Director John Carpenter laces the film with his trademark blend of humour and horror, making aliens that are hideously arrogant, greedy, and easy to hate, while the humans are confused and desperate in their struggle against them. The world looks a little different at the end of THEY LIVE, and one will never look at billboards, money, or sunglasses the same way again. The film contains the longest, and perhaps most realistic, fist fight in film history. Paying homage to INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, the film was based on the short story EIGHT O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING by Ray Nelson.

  • Enduring 80s classic

Seen this on dvd many years which prompted me the buy blu ray version. was a decent carpenter film at the time, different contrast to some he made over past years. Uncommon style movie with fun cracks, rowdy piper a drifter apart from some locals, exposes and uncovers a Alien invasion by some hi tech sunglasses completely oblivious to many civilians in public don't know there true identity because of a hidden signal device. Some fine action set pieces little over the top. Ending was peculiar has left it open for a sequel which didn't occur worth a watch

  • They Live - John Carpenter film.

Yet another off - the - wall John Carpenter film. The acting isn't the greatest - indeed, some of the actors are bloody awful - but the plot and the general idea of the script more than makes up for it. Highly recommended.

  • It's a grower!

This is a great film by John Carpenter. I watched it for free on Amazon Prime and then started thinking about some of the deeper themes within the movie. Then I watched it again and enjoyed it more. Then I got rid of Amazon Prime and felt like watching it for a third time so bought the Blu-Ray, the deciding factor being that it had been 'restored', not that I understand that process. This time instead of on a laptop I watched it on a big TV and was delighted with both the picture quality and film itself. I just thought it was a little overpriced but I suppose that's Blu-Ray for you.
